I first learned of Saint Amphilochios when reading the Life of Mother Gavrilia, The Ascetic of Love. He was her spiritual father. I am always fascinated by the personal interconnection among the saints. Like Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia who had a huge impact of the spiritual development of the future Saint Paisios the Athonite, Mother Gavrilia was deeply influenced by the spiritual guidance of Saint Amphilochios of Patmos. Therefore, once I had an icon of Mother Gavrilia, it seemed necessary to then get an icon of her spiritual father, Saint Amphilochios. This icon of him, with the words of the scroll that so deeply affected the life path that Mother Gavrilia would follow, seemed like a perfect compliment. I am not disappointed!
