Saints Martha & Mary of Bethany, sisters of Saint Lazarus the Four-days Dead
These two sisters demonstrate that we do not all have to serve Christ in exactly the same way. Mary chose hesychastic quietness while Martha was called to active hospitality. Most of us have some of both of these women in us. Since my baptismal saint is Elisabeth the New Martyr, I wanted an icon of the saints that she chose as the patrons for her unique monastery, a place that expressed both kinds of service to Christ. I am very happy with the quality of this icon and highly recommend it.
