The Chi Rho is one of the earliest forms of Christogram, being the first two letter of the name ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christos or, Christ). The symbol is flanked by the Greek letters "Α" and "Ω" (Alpha and Omega or, the Beginning and End). The Chi-Rho symbol was seen first by the Emperor Constantine I (336-337) in a vision and was thenceforth used by him as part of a military standard.
