Theotokos "Sweetness of the Angels"
Guard me under thy protection
This icon is modeled after a very ancient icon depicting the Theotokos with wings, similar to what we see with Saint John the Forerunner and Baptist. In this instance they represent shelter and protection.
From the Paraklesis to the Theotokos:
"My numerous hopes are placed
Before you, most holy One;
Mother of our God,
Guard me with care, within your sheltered arms."
"You are the sweetness of Angel,
The gladness of the afflicted ones,
A protection of all Christians,
O Virgin Mother of our Lord;
Grant me now help and save me
From the eternal torments."
