An extraordinary clash of cultures unfolds in this striking new work inspired by the life of Saint George the Greatmartyr. Rendered in the flowing elegance of ukiyo-e, the scene captures the moment of triumph with stylized grace: the saint, poised atop a rearing steed, drives his spear downward into the coiling dragon, whose form twists like a storm-tossed wave beneath him. Delicate linework and flattened perspective echo the traditions of Edo-period masters, yet the narrative remains unmistakably rooted in Christian iconography.
Through the hand of Vadim, a Moscow-based artist, the piece bridges centuries and cultures. His interpretation transforms traditional Orthodox iconography into something both ancient and newly imagined—a poetic fusion where the Orient meets Constantinople, and heroism becomes an elegant, almost meditative act.
